Groove is in the heart

I read an article the other day that said Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger (lead singer of Nickelback the worst band to ever exist, ever!) are getting married. My soul died a little bit at the thought that they could actually make music to seal this union…that could be the end of all good music as the world knows it.

I thought I would use today's blog to introduce you to some excellent bands (not Avril and Chat) that are heating up the airways around the world at the moment.

Whether you like hip-hop, pop or are an indie hipster, I have all your music needs covered.

Pop

Marina and the Diamonds

Marina and her band burst onto the music scene with the hit 'Champagne' in 2010. The band went surprisingly quiet after achieving success with the song, but now they are back better than ever. The hit Primadonna is a pop smash, and also her eccentric style is pretty great too..

Jessie Ware

Jessie has the perfect pop meets soul voice. Her songs are catchy yet hit an emotional cord. This British songstress has been compared to the likes of Sade and Whitney Houston. ‘Wildest Moments’ is her big hit of 2012.

Hip-Hop/Roots

Rudimental

If you haven’t heard the song ‘Feel the Love’ playing on the radio then you might be living under a rock….The song has been receiving extensive airplay – and for good reason. The quartet from London have had chart topping success all around the world with this hit that features John Newman. Definitely a band to watch.

Nas

Life is Good is the 10th studio album from old timer Nas. Most people usually remember him for his volatile relationship with singer Kelis because his music isn’t that good, but this album has finally got him recognition for his music.  Song for song, it's his most solid, disaster-free album since, well...

Electro

Passion Pit

Passion Pit is the most consistent electro/dance outfit that I have come across in the past 5 years. Their first album Manners has nearly been outdone by new release Gossamer. ‘Talk a Walk’ is the most notable song on the album, but it is just one of many great tracks.

Twin Shadow
Twin Shadow is the stage name of American musician George Lewis Jr. He basis his style on 80s new wave electro. I know this might sound terrible, but his voice is captivating and he produces a great beat.

Rock
Django Django
The best reason to listen to this band? They are all really attractive Irish men! However, their music is great too. I was lucky enough to catch these guys at Splendour this year and their energetic psychedelic rock puts a smile on your face and gets your foot tapping. Check out ‘Default’.

The Black Keys
One of my favourite bands! This American rock outfit pairs fast, sharp rock with blues perfectly. Their back catalog is extensive but their new album is one of their best to date. ‘Dead and Gone’ and ‘Lonely Boy’ are addictive.

Indie/Alternative
Japandroids
This Canadian duo is known for their garage rock meets pop vibe. They rose to prominence in 2009 and have toured the world extensively since. They have just released their second album Celebration Rock which is one of the best albums of 2012…well in my opinion.

Alpine

Australian band of the moment. The lyrics are deeps, the voices are hauntingly good and the melodies couldn’t work more. I don’t know what to say other than purchase their album A is for Alpine now!

Get on Youtube tell me what you think of these bands!
Have a great day!
