RED HOT: Fiery Winter Hair Colour

Hello weekend followers!

Wow, what a week!
Between last Saturday (my 26th birthday) and this Saturday, I have become a mummy... to a beautiful Cavoodle puppy - Oscar! Oscar is a birthday present from my fiance Ben (I got spoilt!)

I have never had a pet before, other than guinea pigs which require next to no maintenance. So you can imagine my shock at how much there is to do with a puppy! Don't get me wrong - I LOVE him, he's the cutest, sweetest thing I have ever seen... AND HE'S MINE! But when you have something that's 8 weeks old and needs constant attention, your whole life turns upside down. (some people have even told me that having an actual baby is easier and I am starting to believe them!)

My little darling Oscar <3

And then, his soft, shiny strawberry/brown fur got me thinking... about hair :/ and about how so many things have changed in my life recently that I think it's time for a change of hair colour... I'm talking RED.
(Dear Ben, if you are reading this, I am serious, I want to be a ginger-hair like Oscar and Eric - pretty please don't kill me for wanting you to dye my hair red)

I love how vibrant and alive even the slightest tinge of red can make a hairstyle. I want the WOW factor and I want a BIG change! But with so many shades and variations, which one to choose? Ruby, Copper, Auburn, Mahogany, Deep Violet, Burgandy... arghhhh!!! help!

So... off to my Mac and onto Google for some inspiration in which shade to choose, and the celebs are always a good reliable source.

So is red hair right for you?
I recommend reading these articles below to find out...

MarieClaire:
"Red is a head-turning hue, and you have to be self-assured enough to accept the stares, says Tasha Forgash, color specialist at Shag Salon in Boston. Colorist Sarah Gold, the guru behind Lindsay Lohan's formerly flame-colored hair, concurs: "Remember, red hair is like a sequined dress — it walks into the room before you do."

So after reading these articles I am a little bit overwhelmed with choices and will have to have a chat with Eric from the Stefan Concept Salon about what to choose. What I DO know is, that I will have to take extra good care of my hair if I choose to go down the red hair path. And what better products for me to have then some of our very own...

So ladies, to red or not to red? Hrmmm I will ponder on this one.

Enjoy your weekend :x

Pump up the glam!

This winter is all about going to extremes which means lips are either bold or nude.  It is time to pump up the glam and update your cold weather look with a touch of colour with our Stefan Professional Vivid Lips in 'Plump'. This addition to your wardrobe will not break the bank and will take your look from day to night in just a minute. It is perfect for the colder months when your skin tone is slightly paler. Apply this dramatic colour over lips that have been covered with concealer - this will make the colour more intense. Try to keep a classic style on the eyes, darken the brows and add some false lashes to complete the look.

It is important to choose the right shade for your skin tone. Of you’re fair, try a pinkish purple colour for your pout, medium tones can use a red berry hue and for ladies with darker completion burgandy is recommended.  The more matte the lipstick the better. Adding too much gloss will kill the look. It will also make the lipstick bleed and look untidy. To add a bit of shine, dab some gloss into the centre of your lips and smooth over the entire lip.

I have been dying to try out the the deep cherry coloured lipstick look.  Here's a photo of our Stefan Professional ‘Plump’ coloured Vivid Lips Lipstick in action.

Food for the Soul: Delicious Healthy Eating!

So, it’s winter, and flu season is upon us! Get out the Vitamin C and Echinacea and rug up! (says me who looks like Rudolf today and spreading my germs around the office - apparently I was too late on the Vitamin C bandwagon)

We all know that nothing beats off a winter cold quicker then a bowl of homemade chicken soup (it’s good for the soul). And we know that winter is the easiest time of year to push your healthy eating to the side and enjoy some comfort food.

Most of us are craving hot meals to warm us from the inside out. If you’re like me, the first thing I think of is a big bowl of hot soup for lunch with a crusty bread roll (sorry Andrea I love bread) and mug of steamy hot chocolate in the evening (and probably a Tim Tam to go with that!).

I for one am not into diets (or healthy eating really) but I have to say, that I have stumbled across some DELICIOUS winter recipes that have definitely curbed my comfort food craving and satisfied my taste buds!
You don't have to stick with the traditional bowl of chicken soup (although it is delicious) so I have found a soup recipe that is a little heartier with lots of gusto and even a recipe for a 100% healthy sweet treat (keep scrolling down for that one!

And before you roll your eyes at ‘healthy eating’, be assured that the recipes I am going to suggest are VERY filling and VERY delicious! (I have tried them myself)

From Taste.com
  • Preparation Time: 15 minutes
  • Cooking Time: 35 minutes
  • Serves: 4

Ingredients:

  • 3 leeks, finely sliced
  • 2 teaspoons oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 rashers bacon, diced finely
  • 1 large potato, chopped
  • 1 large carrot, halved and sliced
  • 1 (400g) tin tomato pieces
  • 1/3 cup red lentils
  • 1 packet french onion soup
  • 1 litre water
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Directions:

  1. Heat oil add leeks, garlic and bacon cook for 5 minutes on low heat until leeks are soft.
  2. Add potato, carrot, undrained tomatoes, lentils, soup mix and water. Bring to the boil and the simmer for 30 to 40 minutes or until the lentils are tender.
  3. Sprinkle with parsley and serve with crusty bread or rolls. YUMMMMMM!
I know what I will be cooking up this weekend to get rid of my flu!

Now, a sweet treat that's 100% good for you and all natural. Pffft you say?! Well... let me tell you this is no lie...

I found this recipe on The Rawtarian: http://www.therawtarian.com/raw-chocolates-recipe
and it is YUM!
  Ingredients:
  • 3/4 cup coconut oil
  • 3/4 cup agave nectar
  • 1 cup raw cacao powder
  • *Optional: 1/3 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. If coconut oil is hard/solid place it oil in a bowl. Then place bowl inside a BIGGER bowl that is filled with hot water so that it will melt. Don't mix them together, though! You just want to liquify the pure coconut oil for use in this raw chocolates recipe.
  2. Mix all raw chocolates recipe ingredients together in a blender or with a whisk until smooth.
  3. Place chocolate mixture in chocolate molds to be set in the freezer or pour into a small glass baking dish to set in the fridge until set.
  4. If not using molds, then cut into bars instead.
For other suggestions go onto their website and see flavour options to try with your chocolate.
So now you can indulge on yummy food guilt free this winter!
Tell me what you think of the recipes or upload one of yours for us to try!
Have a great weekend!

2012 Astra Awards Best Dressed

Best Dressed! 2012 Astra Awards!

Last night marked the 10th Annual Astra Awards.

Amongst the hype of Molly Meldrum making his debut appearance, I couldn't help but notice that BLACK IS BACK...(and white).

It seems black and white were very much the colours to be seen in on the red carpet.

I have picked out the best-dressed celebrities of the night.

Terry Biviano
I LOVE this dress, her elegant side-swept curls and black nail polish.
10/10

Carissa Walford
Going out on a limb with a bit of gold. It was nice to see some sparkles amongst the sea of black and white.
9/10

Christina Birtles
It seems the Angelina leg had a comeback.
What i like most about this look is her hair and make-up. It is simple, yet very chic.
8/10

Ruby Rose
Nice to see her in something a bit girly.
8/10

Natalie Basingthwhaight
I like the one shoulder dress and the ostrich feather ruffles.
I like her hair could have had a little more va-va-voom.
7/10

Megan Gale
Whenever I see Megan Gale's hair, I can't but think Amazing.
I love the side-swept finger waves.
Very on trend.
10/10

Kate Peck
Very Elegant dress. Only she could pull off.
9/10

So before you go discarding your black and white staples to get on trend with the neon, don't!

It seems black is always back.

Happy Friday!!
