Fun Summer Exercise

With Summer in full steam it is time to get your body into shape! Eating lots of fresh food and vege is vital to start the process, but regular exercise is just as important. I train a couple of times a week at my husband's studio doing a range of exercises with weights as well as attending regular group sessions.

I have been researching some fun ways to keep fit when I don't have access to a gym or group session.
Maybe you can try these to keep fit.

Cycling

Cycling is a great way to escape and destress but it is also a good form of exercise if you amp up the speed and distance.

Cycling is mainly an aerobic activity, which means that your heart, blood vessels and lungs all get a workout. You will breathe deeper, perspire and experience increased body temperature, thereby improving your overall fitness level.

Other benefits include

  • It helps to develop your fitness without adding stress to your joints
  • It helps to increase aerobic fitness and improve muscle tone and strength
  • Helps to prevent disease (heart disease, diabetes)
  • Manages weight
  • Can increase energy levels
  • Assists in reducing stress, anxiety and depression

Swimming

I am lucky enough to have a pool in my unit complex so I have been trying to get down there to do laps on a regular basis. Swimming is a great way to exercise without impacting your joints. It is ideal for those who are overweight or suffer from arthritis.

Other benefits of swimming

  • Increases muscle tone and strength
  • Improves flexibility
  • Because swimming is an aerobic exercise it strengthens your heart
  • Helps to control weight
  • Great exercise for people who suffer from Asthma
  • Helps to improve cholesterol levels
  • Lowers the risk of Diabetes
  • Lowers stress

Dancing

Dance is a fun way to exercise individually or with a partner. My husband is keen for us to take some Latin dancing classes in the new year (watch this space hehe). Dance is a great way to improve flexibility, strength, endurance and sense of well being.

Other benefits of Dance:

  • It is a Calorie Blaster
  • Culturally diverse
  • Helps to improve balance
  • Strengthens bones - can aid in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis
