How To: Fishtail Braid

How To : Fishtail Braid.

Braids are huge this season, with many celebs rocking different styles on the red carpet. There are many styles of braid and they make for a great alternative to the classic pony tail.

They look detailed and complicated, but are perfect for blending in layers and keeping hair neat and tidy.
( and it's easier than it looks!)

The Fishtail Braid, is one of my favourites, and one in which I have struggled to teach myself for quite some time!  I've finally got the hang of it, so I thought I'd share my tips with you guys!

You can start at the top of the hair, or simply fishtail braid your ponytail.
( this is great for beginners!)

What you will need.
1. Hair Brush (or comb)
2. Hair Elastic (thin, non metal)
3. Hair Spray ( for the finishing touch)
4. Patience!!!

Step One. Separate the hair into two even sections.

Step Two. Pull a thin strand of hair from the outside of the left section. Pull it over the top of the left section, and grasp it under the right section. In other words, the strand of hair has gone over the left section and finishes under the right section.

Tips
- Try to use the same thickness of each strand.
- The thinner it is, the longer it will take, but it will give a more intricate result.

Step Three. Repeat Step 2 on the other side. Pull a skinny strand of hair from the outside of the right section, pull it over the right section, then weave it under the left section.

Step FourKeep alternating sides, weaving over and under.

Step Five.  Continuing weaving until you've used all of the hair. Secure the braid with a Hair elastic.

Tips
- For a messier look, using hands to gently massage the braid to separate the hair and create a more ' undone' look.
- It does take some practice to master this style, but its a great reward when you do.
